We lowered our basement from 6'-6" finished ceiling height to 8'-2" finished ceiling height with a new beam, flush footings, and rough-ins for in floor heating. Daniel and Stephen were superb. Like others, we had a great experience with their expertise and knowledge from concept to execution. As far as construction and renovations go, the process was as flawless as could be expected which is not luck but a testament to their experience, abilities, and professionalism. And they were quick with solutions for anything that did arise. Everyone on The Unerprinners Inc team, especially the workers, were extremely respectful and ensured the most positive experience possible for our family and our neighbours. We checked in regularly with our neighbours and they had nothing but glowing reviews for the Underpinners. Nothing was hidden in the process. Daniel provided various pricing options, identified any potentials for extra costs, and was very forthcoming (and most importantly accurate...) with schedule and timelines. Even through the challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic, The Underpinners delivered. As someone who works in commercial construction dealing with contractors on a daily basis, I truly appreciated the ease of working with Daniel, Stephen, and The Underpinners Inc team on my home project. Anyone thinking of an underpinning project would be well served to seek out their services.
The Underpinners deserve my highest possible recommendation. My wife and I were pretty nervous about underpinning our house, especially since it's an old semi, but The Underpinners made the whole process so smooth and stress-free. Stephen, Daniel and their crews worked tirelessly to get the job done WAY ahead of schedule. Watching them dig out and then re-pour the soul of our house was incredible. They were like Ironmen crossed with ballet dancers. And somehow they all emerged from the mud and grime at the end of the day with smiles on their faces, and a kind word for my little boy (who was super stoked at the regular visits from the cement truck). Most importantly, Stephen and Daniel invested tons of time in making sure my wife and I knew what to expect. More than anything, this is what put our minds at ease. Those two went above and beyond more times than I can count; from chipping out and re-pouring a set of patio steps that weren't up to their high standards (a huge job!), to helping out with getting the yard waste to the curb on weeks when I was traveling. I have literally recommended these guys to four neighbours now (some of whom refer to them as Handsome Underpinners Inc, just FYI). As you can see, we can't say enough good things about this company. We chose them based on a similar recommendation from a friend, and we're so happy we did. Now we have the high, sun-filled basement we always wanted.
The Underpinners were extremely professional, quick and clean. They finished our job ahead of schedule and worked everyday, Monday to Friday, without fail. They were courteous to our neighbours and checked in regularly to make sure that we were happy with the progress. Highly recommend!
Way Above And Beyond!!! 10 YEARS AGO The Underpinners did a spectacular job of digging down my basement and extending the house at the back and underpinning the entire foundation. A couple of weeks ago just as I was about to leave the country on vacation (of course!) the sump pump stopped working! Water was threatening to flood my basement. I was somewhat panicked and I called Daniel Garfield who heads up The Underpinners in the hopes that he would be able to recommend someone to call, which he did, but unfortunately none were available immediately. When Daniel learned that I was about to leave the country on vacation the next day and that no one was available to deal with the situation, he graciously dropped everything (it was dinner time) and came over to remedy the situation temporarily, as it appeared I would need to replace the sump pump. The following week while I was on vacation he stayed in communication with me and he arranged for a plumber to come by to replace the sump pump. Crisis averted!! I cannot say enough about how reliable, honorable, and trustworthy Daniel is. I so appreciate the help. Thank you, Daniel!!!

What can I say...the Underpinners were superb. Cost-effective, prompt, quick and tidy, punctual, extremely friendly, the list goes on. They underpinned our entire basement (a semi-detached) including an awkward crawl space, giving us 8' ceilings throughout (even a bit more). I had some anxiety about how the project would go, given some quirks in our basement from previous work, and every concern I raised was answered with "not a problem, we can do this or this...we'll take care of it". Nothing stressed them out. They had reasonable suggestions for every issue, and instead of pushing the challenges off and making them my issue (as I often encounter in my other work as a contractor), they simply tackled them and resolved them on their own, even rarely charging me for it. They have a solid network of support-trades that performed the various areas outside of the concrete work (from engineers to plumbers), all of whom were as reliable as they were. The whole process was so smooth, I kick myself for not having done it sooner. Daniel and Stephen and their whole crew were a pleasure to work with and have around, and I can't recommend them highly enough.
Highly recommend the Underpinners. We used their services to do a sunken patio/walkout and basement underpinning in Cabbagetown Toronto. From the beginning, Daniel was super helpful, walked us through the process, was responsive, and provided lots of suggestions on how we could improve the space, and always went out of his way to help. The end product is absolutely amazing. We received a lot of compliments on their work. Would highly recommend them for anyone who is interested in lowering their basement.
I can't say enough good things about the Underpinners. They quality of work was meticulous. Every contractor who worked the interior afterwards complimented the high quality of underpinning work. Staff were polite and pleasant to talk to. They are always happy and patient answering my questions and providing good recommendations. The underpinning is a a big project, but it was a breeze for me. Definitely recommend and happy to hire them again!
